Our goal is to be prepared ahead of time with an adaptable modular system built and stored in regional centers. Designed as cargo containers, the standardized units are transportable by flatbed truck, railcar or barge.
Our solution creates a sustainable community for uprooted individuals. It encourages them to participate in place-making. Each unit provides for their basic needs until they move on or the new “settlement” becomes permanent.
Sustainability is found in the sharing of pre-fab units between regions, creation of permanent energy independence, and the design of simple, efficient housing made with reused or renewable materials and structures for growing food.
The regional centers and units can be prepared now by publicly funding the unemployed. If we can integrate the skills and abilities of the refugees to assemble units, grow gardens and prepare food, monitor playgrounds and create ball teams, from disasters will come new communities. |
